Cultural degradation

Cultural Degradation

Recently, I watched one episode of the popular programme ‘ Neengalum vellalaam oru kodi’  which featured the so called ‘ulaga Nayagan’. It was shocking to see one middle aged lady saying that she told her daughter ‘Ask your father to go somewhere. I want to be with Kamal hassan’ And in the open hall and watched by millions of viewers she hugged him tightly and received a kiss from him. In the same episode the famous compere Divya Darshini(DD) openly demanded and received a hug and akiss from the actor?  How low the ladies can stoop?

In an episode of the popular programme ‘Neeya Naana’ in Vijay TV   years back, the topic was whether ‘Thaali’ was sacred or not. To the shock and surprise of all, one Maami removed her Thaali in the middle of the show and proudly declared that she had the permission of her hus band to do so. First of all, it was really sacrilegious to have telecast such a programme at all. Such debates should be on current topics of relevance to the public. There is no dearth of such topics in the regime of this corrupt and non functioning Government. Instead, these debates are always on inane topics which corrupt the youth like Love Marriage VS Arranged Marriage, marrying outside one’s caste, whether North Indian or South Indian girls are more beautiful. In one of the episodes, agirl had the gumption to say’ That boy is sema Kattai’. In such topics, individual problems which should be solved within four walls are discussed rather than matters of general interest.

Another disgusting feature is that almost all channels have one dancing concert in which scantily dressed men and women gyrate to the tune of vulgar film songs. These are nothing but the ‘record dances’ which used to happen in the past.

Indian women, especially  Brahmin women are known for th e qualities of ‘அச்சம், மடம்,நாணம்,பயிர்ப்பு’. It is not known whether the present generation knows even the meaning of these qualities.

While it is accepted that that TV Channels are doing business, should they not be compatible with social responsibility?
